How do I uninstall the editor software?
Moderator: Psicraft Tony
This question typically gets asked by users who have a damaged installation and need to reinstall the program from scratch. While the Windows versions of all Vyzor and Vyzex editors all come with an 'uninstall' applet that is installed to the editor's program group on the Windows start menu, the Mac versions of our editors currently require manual uninstallation.
Here are the files to delete if you wish to manually uninstall any editor software package by Psicraft Designs. We're going to assume its a Vyzex editor, but if your software is a Vyzor editor simply substitute Vyzor for Vyzex.
These instructions assume your instrument is called 'Instrument' and is made by a company called 'Manufacturer' - Simply substitute the correct company name and instrument name to apply these instructions to your particular case.
Windows XP/Vista:
(Assuming you installed to the C: drive and your user name is USER)
1. C:\Program Files\Psicraft\Manufacturer\Vyzex Instrument : Delete this folder and contents.
2. C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Psicraft\Vyzex Instrument: Delete this folder and contents.
You can leave the documents folder as is. Likewise if you are going to install to the same location as before, the registry entries can remain intact. If you really want to wipe them, the keys (plus subkeys) to delete are:
HKEY _CURRENT_USER\Software\Sound Quest\UniQuest\Manufacturer Instrument
and
HKEY _CURRENT_USER\Software\Psicraft\Vyzex Instrument
Mac OS X Tiger/Leopard/Snow Leopard:
(Assuming you installed to Macintosh HD and your user name is USER)
1. Applications : Vyzex Instrument : Trash this application.
2. Macintosh HD : Library : Application Support : Psicraft : Vyzex Instrument: Trash this folder
3: USER : Library : Preferences : Sound Quest Preferences.ini : If Vyzex Instrument is your only Vyzex or Vyzor editor, then you can trash this. Otherwise open it with textedit, delete the text blocks with the headings containing Manufacturer Instrument and then save the file on exit. This file is the software's answer to the Windows registry when running on Mac, incidentally.
4: USER : Library : Preferences : Psicraft : Vyzex Instrument : Trash this folder.
5: USER : Documents : Psicraft : Vyzex Instrument : Enter this folder and trash only the Default.SQ9 file contained within. The other files in this folder (and subfolders) are your collection and any data files you may have created with the editor, so don't trash these if you value them at all.
Mac OS X Lion:
We have heard from some users that Lion hides these folders away. You can download a free tool called Lion Tweaks from http://ifredrik.com/applications/ that can make your Library folders visible again - Just remember to hide them again afterwards or Emperor Jobs may throw you to the Lion when he finds out!
Other than this one extra step, the procedure is the same as in Tiger/Leopard/Snow Leopard.
On both platforms you can restart if you like prior to re-installing the editor but it is not required.
